Just a piece of thought.

The information about various scholarships and aids should be distributed (for middle-income students inspired for overseas studies).

Well. for the continuing education in Burma itself for financial difficulties, that's wider issue. It is not only school fees(Ah Hlu Khan), book fees, etc, the root cause if the financial state of family itself. So, how to improve the economy of the country, that's really BIG question.

What do you mean by "School Fee (Ah Hlu Khan)" ? Is the school fee is optional in myanmar ?

If my memory works well, I thought Burma is practicing Free for Education System....

My questions is -> Apart from Pravite Tuition Fees and Other Donations, Primary and Secondary School Student needs to pay "School Fees"?

Let's get back to the topic - "How to help poor students for their Education?"

I think - There are so many solutions to solve the problem...
However, the root of the problem is not -> "How to",
It will be -> "What CAN we do"...
(1)How much are we allowed to do in Myanmar ?
(2)Will there any interference from Authority ?
(3)How far can we go ?
(4)As a person staying in abroad, what is our abilities in Myanmar ?

This is something I am really interested in, helping poor kids. This is just my two cents. suggestions, criticism are all welcome..
1) How much are we allowed to do in Myanmar?
Not much if we are going to interfere with the government schools or whatever. BUT we can do a whole LOT with NGOs. For example, we can work with NGOs to help raise funds for them from here. There are many orphanages and NGOs in Myanmar.

2) will there any interference from Authority>?
Not until we become a BIG deal.

3)How far can we go?
No idea. But if we are prudent enough, we can go as far as we want. (I know this is just an idealized reponse)

4)As a person staying in abroad, what is our abilities in Myanmar?
I think of this living abroad as an advantage for us because we are not excluded from the world. We have connections, we know good people, and we are good people. We can talk to people we know about this good cause. I know this is not an easy job. We, as students, can go back to myanmar in turn to do whatever we need and we can also look for people who are interested in helping us. Students, who are trying to go abroad, would like to help us because they are the ones who are looking for so called "extra-curricular" activities. At least, that is how I used to be.

Alright, my answers may not make sense or just a total bullshit but this is my very vague idea. I am hoping to get many responses.

These comments are not bad. One thing I'd like to share. I heard that Gov won't accept any arrangements regarding education in Myanmar except private schools which are exploiting over our people in Myanmar. So I am not sure whether NGOs can discuss about this with Gov.
Raising funds won't be able to help much for poor students. However much we try to get funds, funds received will be like a drop of water in desert. For me, I don't think we can do much unless the education system is changed. Moreover, downsizing economic is one of the problems which effect education in Myanmar.
(My points might be from negative side, but these are the truth.)
So I want to state another question is "How can we do to change education system in Myanmar?".
This question "How can we solve our country's economic problems?" should be addressed as well.
Hope to get any ideas upon my questions.

as I have read all the discussion, we all have to accept there are lot of poor students and there are a lot of parents who cancont support their children to study and some of the poor parents are thinking that there is nothing after studying and it is better working than studying.

I would like to ask here how reliable our education is and how much guarantee it has for our future life.

some said that it is not good for our future and no guarantee for the student life after studying. the old people said that it is worse that colonial education was because those people in collonial time could work as a teacher or clerk after their 7th or 8th standard. at least there was guartantee for the student life. yangon university and YIT was famous in Asia in the past time, now we all know how it is recognized by other countries. That is our education system goes down and down day by day..

anyway we(not only people but also Government)have to accept bad situation and try our best for improvement for our next generation.

yeah.. we can support some of the poor student by giving some money and materials but we cannot change for every student lifes and education system. That is only government can do.

one step is better than not moving.
Thank you

Let me discuss this interesting topic from my point of view.

It is true that Rome was not built in one day, one month or one year. We need certain amount of time to help all poor students in our country. But, let us give them a hand as much as we could in order to transform their lives.

Education system might not be good as much as we expected compared to other countries. Yet, we need to help poor students to finish their basic education at least. The more illiterate people we have, the more the country will suffer from it. The school drop out rate especially in primary schools has been increasing yearly as many parents who are hardly surviving under high commodity prices could not even afford to spare a cent on the education for their children. Although this might be a bitter truth, we should not decline the reality. After realizing the true fact, we must act accordingly. Some of you might think it is just government's responsibility and why we need to bother. Or some of you are wondering how we can give them a hand. Whichever group you are in, a curtain call is needed to end spreading false statements that were purposely formularized to claim credits over wrong doings which is totally unacceptable.

I thank all your attentions and concerns over poor students and bringing up ideas and opinions about how we could help as well as arguing over education system. I have no doubt we have to work harder to be competitive enough in this challenging and flat world. While we work hard for our dreams, we should not forget the dreams of our poor students back in our country. Let us lend a hand to those needy students and also assist their dreams come true as many as possible.

Nyi Nyi, Great post! May I ask you a question because as you all know history is always repeating? There are many Burmese people who really love to help the basic education for poor kids. But most of the help came from outside of Burma were not welcome in the country by this unwise government. They are scare to death for the outside help. OK.. So, what will happen if we go in and help? We may end up at least at the detention center. If we choose some one in the country to accept our money and donate to those poor kids indirectly, that person will be in problem. If we donate thru government, it will be ending up at their pocket. Although founding a PRIVATE foundation is the best way to help those kids, there is no way government will ignore it. What is your idea? If you find a way to help them, share with us.

I'm writing in response to the recent post by Moe. In summary, Moe asked if there is a way to help poor students properly with no interruption from external factors. My answer is "Yes, there are few ways we can work out to make it possible". But, let me share two possible ways.

1) Individual help which means each and everyone willing to help poor students for their education can donate by self-arrangement. In the other words, an individual may donate one or two poor students (at least) who relate to your relatives or friends back in burma for their monthly educational expenses.

That's totally transperant and you may avoid being asked to stop by authorities. Anyway, I don't think helping poor students is a threat to burmese community. There're already some people who have practised that way to help poor students back in burma and may be you may try that as well.

2) There're many NGOs working in burma (e.g. World Vision). We could donate money thru those NGOs transperantly. Lately, I've just read that World Vision has been helping poor students for their education. We have two options if we decided to donate thru NGOs. First option is to donate indivually. Or another option is to collect money from donars and donate 4 times a year to NGOs who are mainly helping for education of poor stuents. We may organize a team to manage the education funds. We have an idea to form a task force lead by thanlwin ainmat editorial group if necessary.

So, kindly feedback your opinion and we, thanlwin ainmat members, are ready to act in supporting role to transfrom dreams of poor students into realities with the help of people like you who have concern for the future of burma.

Our country has three different level of people.
Upper level of people is rich people who could be easy to find money.
Middle level of people is civil servant who could not be worry about money.
Lower level of people is daily worker who could be difficult to find for money.
We could divide into three groups in Lower level of people.
First level of people can effort their children education.
second level of people can effort their living cost but is difficult to support their children education.
Third level of people cannot effort their living cost. They need to survive by their children work.
Our OES can support only second level of people. We think if we support third level of people, they will be difficult to stand their life and they could not support their children education.
I want some advice about our supporting.
