Would it be too late if a youth decides what he/she will do for his/her whole life only after Matriculation Exam passed?

For me, a youth should - without peer presure and environmental influences to some degree - decide what he/she wanna do for his/her life as early as possible. (He/she should define what he/she is - a scientist? a politician? a writer? or a business person?)

Another issue to keep in mind for Myanmar youths is that except the Medical Education, no other field has satasfactory university-level-education system. (No, don't be too angry with me. Computer Science sucks - whether it is UCSY or KMD. Engineering is spoiled. Arts and Science? Don't ask me, see for yourselve and find out that I use the most polite words here)

So..., almost all youths with good marks go to medical field whether they wanna do it or not. You get my point? So, we have a broker who has an M.B.B.S, a business man who has an M.B.B.S, a tuition teacher who has an M.B.B.S leading to.... (you fill in this blank for me please)....................

So, where am I? Yes, what should a youth with high matriculation marks do? If he/she want to be a doctor, then go to M.C. If not, go abroad. That's all what I can advice.

Regards,

Law Shay

It's not what we suggest...it's what HE wants to do...there's no point in asking around and following what everyone is saying/doing without really knowing what he's doing to himself...it would be too late by d time he realizes like what after 3 years of Poly...

So, first, which field of study is he interested in?..from there, he should do his research on where to study, which major to take and what he can afford...

d most important is dat he should do what he likes, not what others advise...nor what d parents want...it's hard to reach high in doing something you don't like...

Honestly saying, just need to inward out a burning desire of a young people.Unfortunatly,we will see that most of our young generation in Myanmar lose their identities and don"t know how to grip and what to do .Those facts being in given recent condition are purposely created by ---
Let say as living in dark-side and denying as potential resources.what can they do?First of all, they don"t know really what they want to be and how they want to do.Second is a lot of limitation factors such as social, economical conditions and so on.Mostly they are poors and can not access oppounities in global scales. The final one is lack of the impressive educational background.
Basically my opinion is to burn inward out their desires and they need to get back their identities. What we can do? we all have to do improve our civil societies and let them to involve in.Gradually they will know what they want to get and how they can do.That is better than our suggestions what they should do and how they should do.That"s why is no one can know their desires and beings surely.
If they have a commitment or desire,50% is complete for their lives or everythings.Qualification and other issues such as English skills,Internet access and so on are 30% and it could be cultured or learned.Uncertaintity and Fate is the rest of their percentage and it depends on their own choices.
Actually we need to have a lot of civil societies and eradicate an uneven ground level which created in Myanmar.

I saw many suggestions above to go to MC, if not abroad. Well, I'm not so sure that MC is still a good option, due to lack of resources and increase in the number of students.

After all, it all boils down to individual. Even if one studies in Burmese education system, he can do self-study and earn knowledge. Of course, it is hard. If one put enough effort in medical education, he/she might be able to take MLE etc and still can go abroad.

It is true that peer pressure is very high in Yangon, in terms of career decision. Of course, one should try to follow his/her passion in terms of career. But I would say that resources are very limited in Yangon to reach such decision.

Well, my advise is try to find his passion if possible. If not, just go for the best practical route. He might find the field he chose is suitable for him.

I was told by my friend who did both Bachelor and Masters in one of the top Technical Uni in US that we , Burmese, study in US just for the sake of study. We just work hard. But we lack passion to become the actual scientists or researchers who will excel in the field. Yes, that's the problem with passion.

Anyway, all friends I know who are abroad just try their best. Most of them are top students in respective world class institutions.

So, one just need to give the best shot at whatever he does.

I will be brief.

Depends on his parents financial condition, his drive and determiniation.

If parents could afford about 20000+ US Dollars and if he can be admitted to Medical School, UCSY, Maritime University or Univ of Foregin languages. Then he could try to get good grades in local college in Burma and mean while he can take SAT1, SAT2 and TOEFL and apply good public universities in US, Singapore. If his SAT 1 scores are somewhere above 2000 then it is likely that he may get into a good university in the States. If his SAT scores are not that good but above 1600 then community colleges are way to go but there will be a bit problem with visa.
Good schools in the region like Singapore are not that expensive and subsidized and there are scholarships for talented students
(above 2000 in SAT1) in the States.
Some students who went to community colleges in California and then work hard to get good grades and transfer to public universities like UC Berkeley, UC Davis.

If his parents are rich and could afford more then he can aim for UK or Ausi universities where they will lower their entry criteria.

If he coulnot afford that much then he can still study in Burma, learn agressively and then prepare for USMLE exam for US (to be qualified for M.D post fix in the States). If he were going for engineering, he can work hard to be in top division (top 25%) of graduating class, take GRE (General Subject Test) and TOEFL and apply for graduate schools in overseas.

If he were into Computer Science then he can go towards some professional certification exams in addition to his UCSY Bachelor of computer studies, there are alot of vendor and vendor neutral exams can be taken in Yangon or Mandalay with Thomson learning test centers. For the time being, BCS or British Computer Society professional diploma exams (equ. to honours degree level in UK) is not available in Yangon and the test taker has to go to Singapore.
But if that can be taken in Burma, a person from GCC, UCSY, or GTC or Maritime university can earn a degree level qualification after spending a few hundred GB Pounds.
No need for KMD or MCC. Check www. bcs.org

If British Computer Society exams could be taken at British Council
in Yangon and Mandalay

If it could be done so in Burma then it will be great as
a lot of students can earn a UK honours level qualification
in computer science without spending too much. It can be business opportunity
for some local entreprenurs to built resource centers around BCS exams takers. If anyone were interested then let me know. I found a way to built a non profit virtual distance learning university for helping poor Burmese students to earn UK education without spending too much. The GCC, UCSY, GTC, Maritime or Aerospace university students can take up these qualification in addition to their local degrees and it will enhance for their job or school admissions. This might be useful for those GTI studnets who are working, NCC folks, private universities in the region, PolyTechnics and ITE people. But it is demanding although cheap and open to all test takers.

The virtual university can be set up and maintained by a few hundred dollars and no more than 200 man hours per year. For some entrepreneurs, they could make this
as a business opportunities.
The graduates of BCS can get a job in Singapore and UK as it is a UK qualification in Computer Science.

The more demand we can create, we can push British council and BCS to make exams in Yangon.
